Rachael Leahcar is actively taking the stigma away from blindness and disabilities and showing young people that with dedication, and self belief they can succeed.
Rachael is a teen who is set for big things. Coming in at third place on the Australian version of The Voice, this 18 year old has had a lot more to battle with than just the other contestants on the hit television show.
The singer was born with a degenerative eye condition called Retinitis Pigmentosa and only has 10% of vision making her legally blind. Being a teenager is daunting enough without having a disability – but Rachael (whose stage surname Leahcar is actually Rachael spelt backwards) has never wanted to be “the blind girl”. Singing has always been a part of her life, and if you watch her on stage you would never know she had a vision impairment.
It is no doubt that the world is falling in love with Rachael and her voice and she has become a positive role model for teens everywhere. She has not only excelled in music with singing, but plays the piano and flute as well. Not to mention she can sing in English, Italian, French and Spanish!
Recently Rachael has become an ambassador for The Royal Society for the Blind and is dedicated to being an inspiration and support for other young people in the community, and in particular, those with a disability. Her first album will be released on the 13th July 2012 titled “Shooting Star”.
I hope you will all support Neutrogena® to give educational opportunities to teens so they can reach their potential and take away some of those barriers.
